-=> Quoting Dan Ceppa to Michael Hardy <=- MH> And you didn't address what may be the more important point -- if the MH> story of Joseph and Mary having to travel to Bethlehem is so MH> farfetched, then how did the gospel story get taken seriously among MH> people who would have known that? DC> Isn't myth-making so much fun! MH> Do you have an answer for my question? DC> It's already been answered, Mikey. You, yourself, confirmed it DC> with your post about the census taken in Egypt. DC> Your little trip to Bethlehem is nothing more than a device plot DC> to make the man fit the myth. The question hadn't been answered, and STILL has not been, so I will ask you directly a third time. This time I will make it is simple as possible so you don't miss it (again.) 1. The story of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem for a census comes from the Gospel of Luke. 2. The Gospel of Luke was first circulated among people who would know from experience whether that story was plausible. 3. They apparently found it plausible, since the Gospel was considered authoritative. 4. Why, if the story was so farfetched, did they accept it?
