[REU] US: Gay Wyoming College Student Dies After Beating
I'm not sure we are in disagreement here. Phelps is an evil, tyrannical man who goes to the Bible and sees an evil, tyrannical god. My fundy friend is a loving, gentle man who goes to the Bible and sees a loving, gentle god. I will go one step further and tell you that my friend sees the other scriptures, but a part of him pretty much ignores them and sees them as exceptional behavior for exceptional circumstances. Here again,

It *all* ties together! Awk!
No, being one of the resident fossils, I was thinking of a show that aired in the 60's or so.

You took the words out of context, Karl. If you underline the word prior to those, it isn't an oxymoron. (I'll bet I know where you learned how to do that.) Well, doing god's work, for sure. These guys are SCAREY!

Now Ro$ert$on'$ REALLY pissed!!

I was wrong about this. After actually READING, rather than scanning, the text, I realize it was Phelps himself who was arbitrary, vindictive, and cruel, and that is what he found in his god. Wadda ya know! He was vindicated by his god Himself! No surprise there! This makes Phelps gawd. No surprise there, either.

Does he know what is meant by the term "OLR"? Does he know how to download files from his BBS? Does he believe that people who taunt him have his best interest at heart sufficient to be truly helping him by giving him GOOD advice? See above.

I know that. But if you also underline the word 'more,' you get it in context. The context clearly implies that it doesn't have to be sane, just merely less crazy. No? Braggart! (what's your address again?) <grin>

Lou used to tool down Harold Street in the mornings on his way to work, with a high-rise 4X4 so close to his back bumper he could barely see the guy's headlights in his rearview mirror. He got tired of it one morning, and pulled back his emergency brake (you don't show your brakelights when you use the emergency brake on his little Nissan pickup <grin>). The last time he saw the guy, he was sideways and headed toward somebody's

Friends: A sad war story.
I saw the story as nothing more than a new twist on the old wheeze 'I was sorry that I had no shoes until I saw a man with no feet....'

Perhaps you're right. I just hope that kids have enough chutzpah to ask adults who are knowledgable on a given subject whether what they've read is bullshit or not. There's so much of it out there. What are your reasons? One positive thing is that it is not nearly impossible for parents to bullshit their kids about much of anything, because of the amount of material there is at their disposal that'll make liars of their parents. Perhaps the Internet

How seriously would YOU take the advice of somebody who was taunting and jeering you? Not very, I suspect. I know I certainly wouldn't leave myself open for a wild-goose chase for a left-handed screwdriver by pursuring any advice.

This damn freaking echo
Now, THAT'S a fair complaint. I don't think that it is a fair complaint to call him names and make accusations about laziness, however. I'm glad you didn't do that.

This damn freaking echo
All I am trying to point out is that those who called him lazy when he first arrived here may have been jumping to conclusions without sufficient data. I suspect that he also does the same thing in thinking that he is qualified to moderate an echo in FidoLand.

I think you are misunderstanding the legalities of the matter. Churches, as tax-exempt entities are not allowed to endorse any candidate for any political office. They are in danger of losing their tax exemption if they do so. By offering to help the governor with his campaign in exchange for him authorizing taxpayer funds to be used for church projects, he has muddied the water vis a vis the Wall of Separation between Church and State, and the church has

I've seen his explanation before, but it brings something to my mind: when did the human race begin to see directions in terms of four primary directions with various shadings of the four in between? Isn't that more contemporary than the writings in Isaiah? I don't recall anyplace in the Bible where any of the four primary directions are mentioned, which makes me think that 'we' hadn't broken down directions in that manner at the time the Bible was written.

John Calvin didn't act like a Christian, either, but you follow his take on the Bible. Was he a Christian, despite the way he acted?

But it DOES raise the issue of whether his take on the Bible made him a better person or not. I would be reluctant to accept the theology of anybody whose religious philosophy didn't do SOMETHING to inspire him to be a decent human being.
